PT’s of the Playground: Meet Jubril


Meet Jubril, our resident Scandinavian PT at Fitness Playground Surry Hills. This multitalented human made a career change in 2015 after working as a chef for 14+ years in some of Scandinavia’s top rated Michelin and fine dining restaurants as well as Aria in Sydney. If you haven’t already seen Jubril’s very entertaining weekly cooking videos, be sure to check them out here – his recipes are simple, healthy and yummy.

This hunk can also box, deadlift 190kgs and specialises in full body transformations. And if that wasn’t impressive enough, he’s got a smile you can see across the gym!

Why did you get into personal training?

I became a personal trainer to help people find balance in life. I was once lost and got help from a trainer, now I want to be that inspiration.

What is your favourite thing about personal training?

I get to meet so many different people, and I get to witness their happiness as they achieve their goals.


What are your fitness goals?

I’m working on my handstands and my goal is to be able to walk on my hands! I also want to increase my fighting skills, especially in Krav Maga.

What are your 3 favourite exercises?

1. KettleBell Windmill

This is a good stability exercise and you’ll feel it stretch through your adductors. It’s a great ab exercise that’s not a sit up and works more on the obliques. Make sure your arms make one long line and you’re twisting your torso when you are down.

2. Double Rope Slam

I love this metabolic exercise. It burns the shoulders and makes my heart rate spike! It’s also a great functional and safe exercise for beginners.

3. ViPR Rotation Deadlift

This has all the benefits of a deadlift – glute, hamstring development with added complexity of a rotational force which will develop the oblique muscles. Make sure you keep a straight back, you should feel your hamstring work, not your back muscles! Come and see me if you want help with the ViPR. 

Turn this into a workout:

  1. Kettlebell windmill x 6 per side
  2. ViPR rotation Deadlift x 12 per side
  3. Double rope slam x 25

Rest for 60-90 seconds. Repeat for 5 sets.

This is a great fat loss workout targeting core, glutes and hamstring.
