My training styles will always vary depending on the client’s goals. Whether your goals are fat loss, muscle gain, performance based or health related, I utilise my academia and experience from various disciplines to deliver a truly integrated evidence-based approach that suits your individual lifestyle.
My fitness philosophy
I am a firm believer in education and continuous professional development in all aspects of life and use my own philosophy, the KLU Philosophy, which stands for Knowledge Learning Understanding. I instil my knowledge to my clients through practical learning, allowing them to understand their habits and behaviours, which empowers them to make sustainable changes towards a happier and healthier life.
My Favourite Workout
My personal workouts will mainly start with mobilisation and activation, progress to more strength-based training, incorporate some functional movements and finish of with metabolic conditioning. As I play Gaelic football (similar to Australian Football), it is important for me to maintain a good balance between mobility, strength and cardiovascular fitness to be at the top of my game and reduce the chance of injury.

"I've been training with Johnny for two months and it has been an incredibly positive experience. His attention to overall lifestyle is something I very much value, as a PT he provides much more than simply correcting your form and pushing out a few extra reps.
The sessions are tough but fun and always enjoyable. My wife is also a client and we have completely different goals and needs, but it's a testament to Johnny's skill and knowledge that we are both seeing great results.
My only regret is that I didn't start much sooner, getting coaching from Johnny has been one of the best decisions I've made. Would highly recommend to anyone at any fitness level."
"Before training with Johnny, I would mindlessly go to the gym with no real idea as to how I was going to train or what I was going to train on any particular day. I tended to go on whatever machine was free at the time (usually avoiding the free weights area or squat racks because I found it quite intimidating and I was self-conscious of my technique and form… or the possibility I could maybe injure myself). Since starting my training with Johnny, my attitude to fitness has become more focused with the goal of gaining more strength through an effective programme he has implemented. From tracking my workouts and diet, I have become more conscious of my progression seeing improvements each week. His passion for fitness and healthy living is highly motivating. It is clear that he is always looking to further educate himself to stay ahead of the curve and impart this information with his clients. And this goes beyond ‘face to face’ contact in the gym. He is always keen to answer any questions I may contact him about during the week. Even his Instagram account has very helpful advice. His expertise lies within nutrition which is instrumental in seeing real results!
I previously had a poor experience with a PT who lacked a willingness to teach good habits such as tracking progression of workouts and diet. Nor did this trainer care enough to record any of my progress. This led to few or no results which was very demotivating. I was sceptical to start personal training sessions again but from the first session it was evident that this wasn’t going to be like my previous experience. Johnny took time to understand my goals and lifestyle. He compassionately guides me through developing my confidence to work hard.
I still have a long way to go before I can bust out twenty-odd push-ups or do unassisted pull-ups but the most important thing I take from personal training with Johnny is gaining confidence (especially in regards to strength training... the weights area is looking less intimidating each week) and the knowledge to lead a healthier lifestyle by making smarter choices.
2 months in and I have found it very beneficial. I would highly recommend Johnny as a PT to anyone!"
"I initially went to see Johnny after recommendation by my partner who trained with him. I have been struggling with an Eating Disorder for a few years now but since I began working with Johnny things have improved greatly.
Johnny takes the time to get to know the individual and understand all the influences we have in our lives, many of which we have no control over.
We have worked through my issues with food and body image one step at a time and along with weekly check ins and tasks I have to complete week by week I have seen a dramatic change not only in my body but also within myself as a person.
If anyone out there needs someone to help but doesn’t know where to go or how to start I can highly recommend Johnny as someone who will help, guide and importantly for so many of us, not be judgemental. He’s a credit to his industry."
"I have been training twice a week with Johnny for eleven months now. In this time I have gained continued improvement in my strength and conditioning but equally important for me my confidence and enjoyment in using the gym. I now use all the gym equipment including free weights and racks which I didn’t before.
Johnny always has a plan for every session, tracks progress and is always committed to giving 100% during every session we have had. His advice on nutrition is realistic and sustainable. His passion for fitness and healthy living is highly motivating and he updates and educates himself continually and his Instagram posts are really good at imparting that knowledge to you in bite size chunks. He is also quick to answer any questions outside the gym to help you achieve your goals.
But most importantly of all - in my opinion - I can honestly say that I have enjoyed and got something from every single session we have had twice a week for the eleven months I’ve been training with Johnny.
I would certainly recommend Johnny if you want to make real and sustainable changes to your life."
