My Training style
  • I work with many athletes, as I am performance focused and come from a background of my own as a high-performance athlete. I aim to get the best from your body by applying proven principles of strength training. No ‘Bro Science’. correct structural imbalances to reduce risk of injury while applying strength principles to train to achieve individual needs and goals of every individual - Performance is my niche, and it impacts all of what you do and feel in general life, physical activity and your attitude towards yourself.
My fitness philosophy
  • I aim to impact as many fitness journeys as possible with work of the highest quality. I believe in arming my clients with the knowledge, tools and resources to bring their vision to life. After many years chasing my dream of becoming an Olympic Champion in my own sport, I’ve turned to facilitating the dreams of others. I think it’s important to note, not everyone’s medal is at the Olympic Games. I’m involved with the Fitness Playground team to deliver one common purpose, to create work that will help our clients build happier, healthier and rewarding lives.
  • My mission is to provide the finest performance system, specialist equipment and facility, seamlessly integrated to efficiently and ethically “make things happen” to enhance your athletic performance.
My Favourite Workout
  • A: Barbell Deadlift work up to 8/10 RPE 1RM, Followed by 5x3
  • B: Anderson Front Squat *Cluster Sets* 3x4(1,1,1,1)
  • C1: Lying Hamstring Curl 1 1/3 @Top Range *Toes dorsiflexed* 4x6-8
  • C2: Barbell Romanian Deadlift 4x8-10
  • D1: Barbell Split Squat 3-4x10,8,6,6
  • E1: Standing Calf Raise – 10sec pause between 10/15
  • E2: Half Kneeling Stability Lift 3x12
  • E3: MB Rotary Chop 3x4
  • This is my current favourite; A lower body pull session of a four-day split - I like focused sessions for the glutes and hamstrings. This is my own training phase and designed for my needs – Every program is extremely subjective. I’m all about aligning everything with an outcome that is going to be most productive in giving my clients their individual results. For me it’s all in making it most relative to the demands of my sport.

what Mark's clients say

"Regular personal training sessions with Mark is one of the best things I have done for myself in a long time. Mark has not only supported me in working toward my weight loss goals but has helped me learn the importance of a holistic view about my body and health. With Mark’s support and encouragement I have increased my strength and endurance, my heart age has dropped by 10 years and I will be completing a 30k trek, something I never thought I could achieve. He has motivated me to push myself, make time for myself and shared his knowledge to support me in reaching my goals."

"As a competitive rower, training off the water is just as important as training on the water and a solid training program can mean the difference between making the finals or placing out in the heats. My off the water training was limited to bodyweight high intensity interval training and as such I decided to give strength and conditioning training a go. My first impression of Mark was that this man knew his stuff! He understood and empathised with the athlete mindset and knew how to keep me motivated enough to keep up training and push through my limitations and transform them into strengths. He was quick to pick up on strength differences between my left and right side which translated to an imbalanced boat and loss of power and speed on the water. By addressing this, I’ve been able to perform the best I have all season. 3 months down the track and I am stronger, faster, can endure for much longer and performing better than I have before. I am eating cleaner, and training harder because I am motivated and empowered to do so. My confidence on and off the water is much higher and overall I feel much better than before I started with him. Mark is an awesome PT and I would recommend him to all aspiring athletes without hesitation."

"Although I have only been training under Mark’s expert guidance for a little over three months, I have exceeded my initial goals many times over. I came very late to undertaking regular exercise in the gym (being 60 years old) but I can honestly say that as a result of training with Mark I feel stronger, fitter and more flexible than I have in years. Mark pays particular attention to ensure that I am doing the exercises correctly and thereby avoiding injury.  He regularly updates my personalised program to ensure optimal benefits are achieved.  This also means that the program does not become monotonous.  And importantly for me, it is Mark’s encouragement that keeps me motivated.  I’m seeing the results! It is obvious to me that Mark is a very knowledgeable and highly skilled, which gives me the confidence to highly recommend him to anyone looking to improve their health, fitness and wellbeing."

"Before I Started training with Mark I only weighed 75kg and was struggling to put on mass for rugby. I found that no matter how hard I was trying I was still not gaining much muscle mass. Previous to Marks training program I was training nearly 6 times a week in the gym for almost 2 hours each session, doing the typical exercises like bicep curls. My training was becoming boring, repetitive and ineffective. I had a couple of niggling injuries such as a painful lower back and an ACL strain which put a setback on my training. Mark has been not only an excellent coach but an amazing mentor for me. He constantly kept in touch with me about my training and goals and diet which motivated me. His excellent strength programs provided sensational results for me ultimately gaining 10 kilograms of muscle. He taught me correct form for important exercises such as the deadlift. Mark also kept track of my progress every six weeks and would use it to incorporate some special exercises for my next program to help me improve. Before I started my journey with Mark I was told by coaches that I wasn’t big enough or strong enough to make rep teams for rugby union. Since then I have been part of the Eastern Suburbs rep team who won the state championships and was further selected to play for Sydney. The training has changed my whole game and made me twice the player I ever was. I am very pleased with my results that I have achieved with Mark. I have stayed injury free and been able to perform at 100% every week. I’m sure that Mark can help me achieve much more progress and results in the future. "
